A great result for the “flagships” of the European Waterpark Association: No less than four members landed in the top 20 in the worldwide ranking of the most visited waterparks in 2022.

This result is all the more remarkable as the first quarter of 2022 was still affected by restrictions on operations due to measures to combat the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Bavarian waterpark Therme Erding landed in 5th place in the ranking with about 1.7 million guests, making it Europe’s most visited waterpark. In 10th and 11th place are two other EWA waterparks, Aquapalace in Prague (1.2 million) and Tropical Islands in Brandenburg (1.15 million). The youngest “offshoot” of Europapark Rust, the “Rulantica” waterpark, is also moving further and further up the list: with 900,000 guests in 2022, it landed in 18th place and was able to increase its visitor numbers by 80 percent compared to the previous year.

An “exotic” in the list is the Nettebad in Osnabrück, which with 650,000 guests in 2022 could take the proud 31st place in the list of the world’s most visited leisure pools and waterparks. The leisure pool, managed by EWA board member Wolfgang Hermle, is run by the municipal utility company and is thus a real exception among the almost exclusively privately run waterparks in the top 50 list.

The ranking was published by the trade journal “Kirmes & Park Revue International” in September 2023.
